Got questions? We might have some answers

What is House Guessr?

House Guessr is a guessing game inspired by GeoGuessr. Instead of guessing locations, you'll be testing your knowledge of the real estate market by guessing house prices or their locations!

How are points calculated?

Points are calculated based on how close your guess is to the actual price, with different scoring ranges for each difficulty level:

  • Easy Mode: Up to 5000 points, with scores given for guesses within 80% of the actual price
  • Medium Mode: Up to 5000 points, with scores given for guesses within 40% of the actual price
  • Hard Mode: Up to 5000 points, with scores given for guesses within 25% of the actual price

The scoring system uses a curved algorithm that rewards accuracy while still being forgiving for close guesses. Perfect guesses always earn 5000 points!

What features require signing in?

Leaderboards can only be accessed by signed-in users. We keep data collection minimal - the only personal information we store is your email address, which is used for account management purposes only.

Where does your property data come from?

We work with a closed-source vendor that provides us with real estate data. The data is updated as frequently as possible to maintain accuracy. We're considering adding a premium feature that would provide real-time property updates in the Property Details view for users interested in specific properties.

How can I report bugs or suggest features?

We welcome your feedback! You can email any bugs or recommendations to houseguessr@gmail.com.

What is your tech stack?

House Guessr is built using Ruby on Rails 7.1, utilizing Turbo and Stimulus for the front end.
